INTRODUCTION
Information Technology Development Project (ITDP) is the Government’s main initiative to take advantage of the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is it’s pursuit of e-Government, making government work more efficient, transparent, and accountable, and of delivering public services to the public.
The ITDP consists of three main components, an application component, a network component and a component for the provision of Public Service Kiosks. The application component will develop an e-Government Service Platform as well as develop applications and online services enabling electronic delivery of information and public services. The network component will establish the Government Network of Maldives (GNM) in Male’ and 20 Atoll Capitals. The Public Service Kiosk component will establish public service kiosks in Male’ and 20 Atoll capitals providing public with better access to government information and services.
PROJECT STATUS
The network and application components have been awarded and are currently in progress. The component for the development and deployment of public service kiosks has been re-opened for tender on 1st July 2007 and the deadline for the submission of the bid proposals is 29th October 2007.
OBJECTIVES
The Project seeks to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of public sector management by networking government agencies and electronically providing information and services for the public.
DESCRIPTION
The project will establish an e-Government Service Platform consisting of common application services which shall allow online public services be developed by Government Agencies, common applications designed to streamline and make more efficient some of the main government processes and a set of online services. In addition, portals will be setup to host these applications and online services. This component is being carried put under the Application Turnkey.
ITDP will also establish the Government Network of Maldives (GNM) which will connect government and parastatal agencies in Male’ and 20 Atoll Capitals, enabling these agencies to share information electronically and providing them with private and secure access to the e-Government Service Platform and portals. This component is being carried out under the Network Turnkey.
In addition to the e-Government Service Platform and the GNM, ITDP will also install Public Service Kiosks in Male’ and the Atoll Capitals to provide the public with better access to the public information services provided by the e-Government Portals. |
