The National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) has conducted a two-day training session on using Open Source Software in Government. This training session held from 18th July 2011 and 19th July 2011 was attended by 17 senior technical staff from 8 ministries agencies of the Government.
The aim of this training program was to provide detailed instruction on using the Open Source desktop environment Ubuntu Desktop Edition 10.04 and Open Source Office productivity software LibreOffice. The training program covered Ubuntu Desktop environment including the features of Ubuntu Operating system, user Interface, system configuration as well as LibreOffice Writer and Calc. It concentrated on general purpose computing for Government with Open Source software including the use of Dhivehi language “thaana” with LibreOffice.
