The National Centre for Information Technology launches the number of new e-services for the government and for the public. The aim of these services is to strengthen governments’ drive towards effective governance and increased transparency, at the same time, enhancing the access to and delivery of government services to benefit citizens, business partners and employees through e-Services.
The e-services that were launched today included the new features and enhancement of the Government E-Letter Management System (GEMS) and Transport Online Services. In addition, a new e-service called the e-storage was also formally launched today.The launching ceremony was held at State Electric Company Limited, STELCO Maalam.
The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Mr. Mohamed Fayaz during his introductory remarks noted the importance of e-government and highlighted that that the GEMS system was launched last year. At the beginning, the GEMS was used only by government agencies in Male’ and one organization in Seenu atoll. However, this year the GEMS has been rolled out to 6 Atolls and 27 more agencies in these atolls. He also noted that a total of 137 organizations are currently using GEMS and an average number of 500 transactions are being conducted daily through GEMS. He also noted that the additional features of Transport Online service that were launched today will facilitate citizens to obtain transport services electronically.
The new features of GEMS was launched by Minister of Health and Family Honorable Dr. Aminath Jameel. Speaking at the ceremony Dr. Aminath Jameel highlighted the benefit of the e-letter Management System.
The e-Storage Service was launched by the Chairman of Civil Service Commission Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan. Speaking at the ceremony Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan highlighted the importance of document storage and value of data redundancy at the time of disaster recovery.
The Transport online services were launched by Minister of Transport and Communication Mr. Mohamed Adil Saleem. Speaking at the ceremony Mr. Mohamed Adil Saleem highlighted the importance and the role of IT for a country like Maldives. He further noted that IT will help to narrow the digital divide between island communities and enabling the citizen to access government services online.
The Launching ceremony was attended by Minister of Economic Development Honorable Mr.Mahmood Razee, Minister of Human Resource Youth and Sports Uz. Hassan Latheef, Members of Civil Service Commission, executives of Ministry of Transport and Communication, executives of National Centre for Information Technology and Executives of government agencies.
