The National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) and Wataniya Telecom Maldives today launched the Wataniya ICT Incubator.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and in the spirit of developing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry in the country, Wataniya pledged its support to the project for an initial period of 3 years.

The incubator facility is the first of its kind in the Maldives, and opens up tremendous opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-ups companies. The Wataniya ICT Incubator facility will pave the way forward for entrepreneurs to enter the Wataniya ICT industry, encourage new technological developments, as well as encourage the sustainable development of local companies into this industry.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Communications, Dr. Mahmood Razee highlighted the importance of the new possibilities that the Incubator opens, from job opportunities to the potential of marketing Maldivian-made IT products globally.

As part of the launching ceremony, an exhibition displaying work of talented Maldivians is also being held at the Wataniya ICT Incubator Building. The Open Day showcases websites, software and applications developed by Maldivians, and is open to the general public on 17-18 May 2010 from 1600-1800hrs and 2000-2230hrs.
